On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student newspaper, Die Perdeby, reported on UP’s boxing champion, Allan Alchin.

The article detailed the matches that took place at a local primary school. At this 1978 Northern Transvaal boxing championship, Alchin won the heavyweight championship in a knock-out round against Jan Crafford from Rustenburg.

Boxing was first introduced to the Transvaal University College (TUC) in 1919 and remained a popular sport at UP.
