On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student newspaper, Die Perdeby, reported on the dining halls at Tukkies.
The newspaper noted that there were twelve dining halls on the University grounds. These halls catered for more than 6 000 students on a daily basis. Upon occupation of their residence rooms students qualified for a 50% saving on their total food allowance. This ensured that all residence students had at least one catered meal a day. The prices for breakfast and supper were fixed for the entire year. This gave the students surety that they could afford a well-balanced, adequate and affordable meal.
