A Day in the Life of the University of Pretoria. 06 April 2020

Posted on June 08, 2023

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student newspaper, PDBY, reported on the campus wide effort to support the community in surviving the Covid-19 pandemic.

Only a week after the President declared a national lockdown, the University of Pretoria was already responding to the challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.  The Library unit, UP MakerSpace, produced 3D printed masks and facial shields for health workers testing and treating members of the public for Covid-19 in the Gauteng Province. The University also ensured that recipients of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme would continue to receive their allowances. In addition, food drives were launched to assist struggling students.

Another UP initiative, was the creation of online support groups for students and staff that advised members of the UP community on how to deal with isolation and loss.

The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA has an extensive photo collection and clipping collection. Please contact us on [email protected] to share your memories of Tukkies or to access our collection.
