A Day in the Life of the University of Pretoria. 17 March 1978

Posted on June 08, 2023

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student newspaper, Die Perdeby, reported on UP’s drum majorettes.

The article highlighted the popularity of the drum majorettes at UP and also featured a photo of the group practising for an upcoming performance. As early as 1929 the drum majorettes performed at the crowning of the first Rag Queen on Church Square. For many years the drum majorettes formed part of the Rag and Spring Day processions.

The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA has an extensive photo collection and clipping collection. Please contact us on [email protected] to share your memories of Tukkies or to access our collection.
