A Day in the Life of the University of Pretoria.18 March 1977

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the House Committee of the men’s residence Olienhout resigned.

An article featured in the Perdeby explained that students of Olienhout residence were very upset when they did not receive their weekly meal of steak and chips. Instead the students received soya bean pie. In an act of protest the students stood up in unison after the meal and placed their empty trays and plates on the lawn outside the dining hall. The House Father addressed the students and urged them to take their dinner plates back to the dining hall, threatening disciplinary action against the House Committee members. The House Committee was asked to resign until the House Father could find an amicable solution to the debacle.

The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA has an extensive photo collection and clipping collection. Please contact us on [email protected] to share your memories of Tukkies or to access our collection.
