A Day in the Life of the University of Pretoria. 30 August 2022

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" seven members of the University of Pretoria’s Student Representative Council (SRC) were temporarily suspended for leading a protest against fee increases.

The local newspaper, The Citizen, reported that while the University explained that they could no longer delay fee hikes, students on the other hand stated that the increases would mean many might not be able to register the following year. The students stated that the suspension of the SRC members sparked fear amongst the student cohort regarding speaking out or protesting freely. It also left them without representatives to formally engage UP management on their grievances regarding fees.
