On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" UP students remembered the 2015 student protests.

On 24 May 2021, the student newspaper, PDBY, reflected on the previous student protests. A former editor stated that during the #feesmustfall” protests in 2015 , journalists who were reporting and doing investigations were provided with a red bandanna on which they were instructed to write their name and phone number on and tie to their wrists for identification purposes. Tips were also shared among students, many of which were passed down from their parents, on how to deal with police and tear gas.
