A Day in the Life of the University of Pretoria. 07 June 2021

Posted on May 30, 2023

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the PDBY, student newspaper reported on the infamous UP "Rembrandt"being a fake.

Members of UP Arts staff applied a mix of provenance research and technical art analysis techniques to the artwork in question “Portrait of a Rabbi”. There were a number of factors which initially pointed to the painting being an original, however, after all the tests were finalised it was revealed that the painting was 200 years younger than it should have been and was thus not the original painted by Rembrandt.

The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA houses historical volumes and clippings reflecting on the history of the University as featured here.
