On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student newspaper, the Perdeby, reflected on the stigma associated with studying for certain degrees.

The paper explained that when students are studying Engineering they are often labelled as being arrogant. There is also a stigma associated with studying a BA degree. Students here are, according to some, doing a “BA-mansoek” degree implying they are studying a BA just to meet their future husbands. The article also highlights the stereotypical view that BA students are less intelligent than science students.
