A Day in the Life of the University of Pretoria. 26 February 1971

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student newspaper Perdeby (today known as the PDBY) reported that male students objected to female students' smoking.

The student newspaper explained that many conservative students viewed female students sitting in the cafeterias with a cigarette between their fingers as unfeminine behaviour. More liberal views, however, stated that only allowing female students to smoke in restrooms created a stigma around restrooms and that female students should be allowed to smoke in public like their male counterparts.
