A Day in the Life of the University of Pretoria. 26 July 1971

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the local newspaper, the Rand Daily Mail, reported on the rejection of a multi-racial student exchange programme.

According to the article, the Student Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Pretoria had vetoed a plan for a multi-racial student exchange programme between South Africa and the United States. The plan was put to the SRC by Mr Larry Tighe, an American student studying at the University of Natal. It envisaged recognition of African American students as “honorary whites” by the Government to ensure that they would be admitted to white universities and aimed at “dialogue and communication between South Africa and the US”.
