On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" UP students were charged with animal cruelty.

The SPCA charged three Tuks students with animal cruelty. During the intermission at an intervarsity match, students passed and tackled a piglet like a rugby ball. Spectators reported that the students brought the piglet to the match in a bag. The piglet sustained cuts on its snout, back and face and its legs were also sprained. The pig was taken to the SPCA to recover. A university spokesperson stated that the incident would be investigated and that disciplinary action would be taken against the students.
