On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" trade unions at the university threatened to veto all actions of the University’s Broad Transformation Forum (BTF).

Local newspaper, the Pretoria News, reported that three trade unions at the University of Pretoria had threatened to veto all activities of the BTF should the forum refuse to discuss the 1998 labour crisis engulfing the campus. The trade unions claimed that the management of the University did not apply retrenchments fairly amongst administrative departments or the Rectorate.
