On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" local residents protested against UP students’ behaviour.

The local newspaper, the Citizen, reported that a group of 65 home-owners petitioned against the bad behaviour of Tuks students. This was especially apparent during RAG time. In an effort to address the problem, UP management set aside a special area or “RAG farm” on the university’s sports grounds. Residents, however, complained that throughout the year the students were ill-mannered and barbaric. They parked in residents’ driveways, were noisy and littered areas with sweet wrappings and beer cans.
