A day in the life at the University of Pretoria. 23 October 2015

Posted on May 16, 2023

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" students from the University of Pretoria joined a mass student march to the Union Buildings as part of the #FeesMustFall campaign.

This was in light of the increase in university fees across the country. About 15 000 people took part including students from Wits, UJ and the Tshwane University of Technology. The paper noted that SA President, Jacob Zuma, was expected to address the protesting students, but failed to arrive. Soon after a small group of students became agitated, which led to violence with the police. According to press reports, UP students at the national student march largely adhered to the peaceful mandate.

The University of Pretoria Archive (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA also has an extensive photo and clipping collection. Please contact us on [email protected] to share your memories of Tukkies or access our collection.
