On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student newspaper, Perdeby, reported on protests regarding proposed changes in the UP language policy.
Campus was disrupted between 18 and 22 February by protesters from both sides of the language debate — those favouring the removal of Afrikaans as a language of instruction and those in favour of keeping it. During these protests a number of violent clashes occurred, which resulted in the police having to be called in. The UP Executive received memorandums from both factions.
