On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the Orchestra of the Department of Preforming Arts performed of the Technikon Pretoria performed in UP’s Musaion theatre.

The orchestra was conducted by Ralph Kastner. The pieces performed in Concerto no. 1 for piano and orchestra Op 15 Allegro con brio and Vivaldi’s Concerto Grosso for four violins, string orchestra and harpsichord Op. 3 No. 10.

The Musaion was built as a designated complex to provide facilities for the Department of Music, this structure consists of office wings, an auditorium and an open-air amphitheatre. UP alumnus and architect Brain Sandrock was responsible for the design of the facility. The office wing of the complex was completed in 1960 and the auditorium and amphitheatre the following year. The complex was officially opened in 1961. The complex features elements of the Little Brazilian or Modern Brazilian style and has excellent acoustics. The Musaion seats just over 500 people.
