A day in the life at the University of Pretoria. 01 November 2009

Posted on November 01, 2022

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" Prof CM de la Rey was appointed as the  Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria replacing Prof Callie Pistorius who resigned in March 2009 to accept the position as Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hull.

Previously Prof de la Rey was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Council of Higher Education. She also served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Cape Town and the Executive Director of the Research Promotion.  She was the first woman to be appointed as Vice-Chancellor and Principal at UP. As noted by Prof Stephanie Burton during Prof de la Rey’s farewell, Professor De la Rey’s tenure was characterized by her commitment to initiatives aimed at building a diverse and academically strong student body – she led, and supported, the Executive team in a number of initiatives to develop students and to ensure their success.

The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA has an extensive photo collection and clipping collection as well as histories and accomplishments of UP’s Principals, as featured here.
