On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" UP researchers were elected to become the first members of the South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS).

The academy was officially launched by the former Minister of Science, Naledi Pandor. UP academics who were elected included Prof Bernard Slippers from the Department of Genetics at the Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute; Prof Andrew Mckenzie Department of Zoology and Entomology; Prof De Wet Swanepoel from the Department of Communication Pathology; Prof Rangan Gupta from the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences and Prof Matheiu Rouget from the Department of Plant Science.

The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria.
