On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student newspaper the Perdeby reported on the campus wide effort to support the community in surviving the COVID-19 pandemic.
The newspaper noted that the UP MakerSpace at the Library were producing 3D printed masks. The MakerSpace were printing visor frames for facial shields used by health workers who were testing and treating members of the public for COVID-19 in the Gauteng Province. The university further ensured that all student who received support from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme continued to receive their allowances. Food drives were also launched to assist students that were struggling. The Perdeby further reported on the psychological support groups that were available on digital platforms for students and staff. The newspaper also published some guidelines on how to deal with the isolation during the pandemic times. This coping mechanisms included keeping a journal, meditating, coloring in, learning a new language or how to play an instrument, doing yoga and trying out new microwave recipes.
