On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" UP Drama department performed the Roald Dahl play, The Witches at the Masker Theatre.
The student newspaper, the Perdeby reported that the props and settings prepared by the Tukkie students were set up to involve the audience. Furthermore, the audience were located in the middle of the play with all the performances taking place around them. This, reported the paper, made the audience feel intricately part of the play. The Lier and Masker Theatre formed part of the Christian Brothers Collegge (CBC) and was bought by UP in the 1960s. In 1969 the UP Drama Department converted the Masker to a theatre that could seat up to 240 people.
The University of Pretoria (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA has an extensive photo and clipping collection. Please contact us on [email protected] to share your memories of Tukkies or access our collection virtually.
