On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria”, the Board of the South African Higher Education Community Engagement Forum awarded the Excellence Award in Community Engagement to Prof. Denver Hendricks.

The article in the Tukievaria of 2011 explained that this reward was in recognition of his service during the founding of the SA Community engagement forums and his contribution towards the higher education community. Prof. Hendricks was the former Director: Community Engagement at UP. He accepted this reward at a gala function in East London
