On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the two departments in the Faculty of Theology amalgamated to form a single Faculty in which two of the South African churches would be represented.
The faculty was established in 1917 with two independent sections. It was started by the Netherdutch Reformed Church of Africa (NRC) and joined by the Dutch Reformed Church in South Africa (DRC) in 1938 as a separate unit (Section B). Section A and Section B functioned separately, each with its own dean and individual departments. Prof CJA (Cas) Vos was appointed Dean of the new faculty.
The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. We have an extensive photo collection and earlier copies of the senate, council and faculty minutes. The volumes of the University’s history captured in Ad Destinatium i-v, as featured here, also forms part of our collection. Please contact us on [email protected] to share your memories of Tukkies or access our collection virtually.
