On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student newspaper, Perdeby, reported on the appointment of a new cafeteria manager.

The article, featured above, explained that Mr. H.A.S. Biedermann trained as a chef in Germany. He then worked as head chef in the Edward Hotel in Durban, the Marine Hotel in Hermanus, the Arthur Seet Hotel at Sea point. Mr. Bierdemann   had his own doughnut machine and also made his own pies and snacks for the campus. He also prepared a daily meal for students and staff, selling these at for 25 cents per meal. Bierdemann was also in the process of replacing all the plates and cutlery in the cafeteria with a South African made material that cannot break or crack.
