On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the University of Pretoria Private Amendment Act (Act no. 78 of 1988) was published in the Government Gazette.
University of Pretoria Private Amendment Act (Act no. 78 of 1988)
This act resulted in a new management model at UP. From 1 March 1918 to 5 July 1988, the highest executive position at UP was that of Principal. Seven individuals were appointed as Principal of the University in this period. The new act changes this position to Vice-Chancellor and Principal. Members of the convocation now chose the chancellor as well as members of the University council. This act also ensured that students and staff where admitted only on academic criteria.
The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria.
