On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the late prof. Christof Heyns was appointed on the UN council of Human Rights.

The local newspaper, the Burger reported that part of prof Heyn’s responsibility on the UN council was to visit countries where people receive the death penalty without a fair trial. Heyns was regarded as one the leading human rights experts in Africa.
