On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" students could attend a course in speed reading and studying methods.

The main aim of the course was to teach students how to read faster and have a better understanding of the text. The course also included a section on how to remember material that you have studied for a longer period of time. The course originated in the USA and was introduced in 1974 in South Africa. Students who completed the course average reading speed increased six times and their understanding of the material with fifteen percent. On this day the course was presented for free in the Humanities Building.
