A day in the life at the University of Pretoria. 16 June 1957

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" UP management decided to erected a new lady’s residence, Asterhof.

The new residence would house 100 (later 150) students and would cost £135,000. The architect Strauss Brink, designed a vibrant modern building that would overlook all the buildings in Hatfield and a wonderful view from the top floors. Building height was restricted to four levels in this era and special permission had to be obtained from the municipality to build Asterhof’s seven floors.
