Posted on April 01, 2024

On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the mammal institute was founded within the Department of Animal Sciences.

During that time dr. J.A.J Meester worked with the African Mammal Project of the USA, Smithsonian Institute. Dr Meester's was prepared to transfer his research on southern Africa to the University of Pretoria. His work also fitted in well with the course in nature conservation that was implemented the year before at UP.

The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA's numerous holdings include an extensive photo collection, as well as news clippings and histories detailing the growth and impact of the University.  Please contact us at [email protected] to share your Tukkies experiences, or visit the UPA reading room to view our collection.
