On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" Dr RE Moraka,  the first black dean of students resigned at UP to take up the position of Vice-Principal at the University of the Free State.

Prof PB (Flip) van der Watt retired as Dean of Students on 30 June 2001 after 12 years in office. He was succeeded by Dr RE (Ezekiel) Moraka. Dr RE Moraka was very popular among the students and served in this position until 31 March 2003 After an extended vacancy, during which the retired Prof PB van der Watt returned to his former position to fulfil the role of Acting Dean, Prof MT (McGlory) Speckman was appointed Dean of Students on 1 October 2004 until beyond 2009.
