On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student newspaper, Die Perdeby made suggestions for possible birthday advised the students on birthdays presents for their girlfriends.

The article (featured above) recommends buying flowers; a pendant or ring; or getting a pretty plaque engraved with the words “lots of meaning for us both”. The article further suggested getting perfume or a book with a personalized message written in the front signed with the word “love”. Other present alternatives included a bouquet of everlastings or a fine ornament; a pencil or pen to chew on, a bag for class or a diary to write poems in. The article advised against giving chocolates.
