On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" Daan Swiegers Sport Club was officially opened by the rector prof. Danie Joubert.

The Tukkie rugby club collected R100 000 to built this clubhouse for UP sport (Article featured above) and the firm Bester Broers sponsored the rest. Prof Daan Swiegers was the student dean and passionate about sport. He had a vision to build a club house where Tukkie sport men and women could enjoy some social time.  UP personnel could join the sport club for R50.00 a year while students could join for a annual fee of R15.00. The architect of the building was Stauch, Vorster & Partners.

The UPA preserves the history of the University of Pretoria.
