For the first time in the university’s history Tukkie team won the Getz trophy ( see article featured above). This floating trophy is awarded at tertiary swim, dive and water polo championships. The UP team beat Rhodes, Norther-Transvaal and UCT to reach the finals. In their final nail-biting intervarsity match, they beat Wits. This was a remarkable feat given that the institution did not have yet have its own swimming pool and had to practise at the public pools.

The University of Pretoria Archives (UPA) preserves the history of the University of Pretoria. The UPA has an extensive photo collection and copies of the histories of the University. The UPA also has a complete print collection of the Perdeby (PDBY).
