20 November 1970: UP hosted international water convention. On this “Day in the life of the University of Pretoria” the university hosted the “Water for the future convention”.

The student newspaper, Die Perdeby (article featured above) noted the local and international significance of this convention. 1970 was declared a national water year to promote the responsible use of water in South Africa. The convention received support from prominent local and international researchers as well as the government. The topics featured in the programme included: atmospheric water sources, better water management, agricultural and water resources.
