09 November 1953: UP building committee receive progress report for the new student hall. On this “Day in the life of the University of Pretoria”, the building committee received the projected cost and outlay of the Rautenbach hall from the appointed architects.

The construction of the building took a lot longer than expected. The negotiations between UP management, the architects and students are detailed in the article above. The architects and quantity surveyors envisioned in their 1953 submission that the new student hall will have several offices, a recreation hall, restaurant and stage. The hall was eventually completed in 1958.
