05 November 2001: Innovation generation. On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria", Prof Calie Pistorius was inaugurated as UP’s 11th rector.

“We have given a name to the world-class people we are going to educate at this institution, “ stated prof Pistorius at his inaugural address, “ They will be known as the Innovation Generation. This is now the trademark of the University of Pretoria”. Prof Pistorius was appointed as dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (EBIT), before becoming rector. He served for two terms from 2001 – 2009.
