02 November 1956: New layout for UP’s inner court. On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria", architects presented a new layout for the inner court area between the Maths, Kollege, Merensky and Old Arts Buildings.

When the Maths building was planned in 1953 the UP council realized that a more structural lay out of the UP terrain was necessary. Up until now buildings were seemingly  built where there was space on the grounds and in the taste and style of the architects and the Council. The building committee, under the leadership of Prof A.L Meiring, created a terrain plan to accommodate the current and future building on campus. The architects plan of 02 November 1956 envisioned a more unified campus layout and included the widening and paving of streets to create a general street layout on campus.
