28 October 1977: Human Sciences building opened. On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria", the HSB, which cost approximately R5 600 00 to build, was officially opened.

The university had to get permission from the city council to close Roper street temporarily while building was underway. In 1975 sections of the building including the lower basement, basement, ground and first floors were already used for lecturers. The building has 29 lecture halls with a total capacity of 2733 seats. It also has 400 offices.
