A day in the life at the University of Pretoria. 22 October 1908

22 October 1908: Advertising for some of the first professorships at the Transvaal University College (T.U.C). On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" an advertisement appeared in the Rand Daily Mail detailing the available positions in History and Mathematics and Physics.

The advertisement (featured above) explained that: “The salary in each instance will be £800 per annum, and in the case of the History Chair, ability to lecture in Philosophy (Logic and Psychology) will be a desirable (though not indispensable) qualification…”. Dr. Leo Fouche was appointed in the History and Philosophy position and started to lecture on 20 February 1909. A.H.T. Muller was appointed in the maths position and served until 1911.
