20 September 1974: UP gymnasts win national competition. On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria" the student newspaper, Die Perdeby, reported on the competition held at Stellenbosch University.

This was the first time where both the UP’s men’s and women’s team received the winning trophies.  The newspaper (featured above) explained that 14 members of the Tukkies team is now included in the provincial squad.
