Matching tourism supply and demand

Posted on April 24, 2013

At the colloquium, findings of a research project conducted by the Division were disseminated on a nationwide platform. The colloquium was well attended by tourism industry representatives, government officials, academics and provincial role-players.

The research project aimed to analyse the supply of tourism products for the five key domestic market segments as identified by SA Tourism. Not only does this research have implications for industry and tourism professionals in South Africa, but the value of the methodology and model developed for this project could potentially also have far-reaching scientific implications for analysing how supply meets demand in tourism regions.

The research findings were positively received by all attendees at the colloquium. The research project forms part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the NDT and the University of Pretoria in 2012. A paper on this project will be presented at the Travel and Tourism Research Association Conference, to be held in Kansas, Missouri from 20 to 22 June 2013.
