Message from the Tourism Management Division

Welcome to the Tourism Management Division, your gateway to the largest, fastest growing industry in South Africa.

In line with international practice we are focussing on producing postgraduate students in the field of tourism management. Our honours programme is open to students who hold an undergraduate degree from diverse disciplines and fulfil certain requirements, as stipulated in the postgraduate brochure. Our master’s and doctoral programmes are geared towards further study in tourism for those students who wish to specialise in fields such as hospitality, air transport, eTourism, ecotourism, destination marketing, attractions and events. Our strong research foundation underpins our degrees and keeps our content relevant, both locally and globally. We are comfortable in the knowledge that we produce graduates who are able to compete worldwide and, as we have seen with our alumni, make a substantial contribution to the industry through their problem-solving approach and innovative attitude.

The Tourism Management Division has a strong research focus on the many developments within this dynamic industry and partners with the National Department of Tourism, SANParks and international universities, such as the University of Oulu in Finland, to deliver high quality research.

Our vision is to be the first choice for students who wish to become future leaders in the tourism industry, to ground our degree in cutting-edge research in this most dynamic of all industries and to strengthen our industry collaboration to the benefit of all our students.

Our dedicated team in the Tourism Management Division would like to welcome you in our programme and assure you of our full support in achieving your dream!

As of 1 January 2018, the Tourism Management Division is now incorporated in the Department of Marketing Management.
