Continuing Professional Development to Enhance University Teaching

Posted on March 27, 2018

Opportunities for academics to access professional development activities are considered to be a lead indicator for improving the quality of teaching. EI’s teaching development activities therefore have an impact on the quality of teaching at UP.  Our flagship priority programme, the Academic Induction, was presented during the week of 29 January.

The programme started with a general session focusing on the institutional perspective.  This session was attended by all 81 registered participants and included an address from the Vice-chancellor and principal – Prof Cheryl De la Rey.  Both vice-principals, Prof Burton and Prof Duncan participated in a discussion on the Institutional (UP) perspective of an academic.  All Deputy-Deans were involved in Faculty group discussions to contextualize the mornings’ information for their respective Faculties.

Day two and three focussed on Teaching and Learning and prepared academics for their first day in class.  These sessions were presented by the Education Consultants in the Department for Education Innovation.  A follow-up session will be arranged for these academics to share their experiences and receive their certificate of attendance
