Global Learning

The University of Pretoria (UP) has a long-standing tradition of international collaboration in teaching and learning. Following the international trend towards online student mobility in the 21st century, several UP lecturers include different components of global online collaboration between student groups from different continents in their modules.

These efforts have culminated in the establishment of Global Online Teaching and Learning at UP – a Community of Practice (COP) for lecturers engaged in undergraduate and post-graduate global online teaching and learning initiatives.

The COP meets twice a year to exchange ideas, share resources, and foster collaboration. UP lecturers interested in joining the COP are welcome to do so by enrolling themselves on the self-enrol clickUP module:

Currently, there are about 40 reported projects at UP, involving more than 50 UP lecturers and over 90 international lecturers from 30 countries. To update current projects, add to the existing list, or to get an overview of the different initiatives, UP lecturers are welcome to visit the living online one-pager sharing document:

As of the second semester of 2025, an Orientation course will be offered for staff members who are interested in including online student collaboration in their modules. Course information is available here:
