The Centre for Asian Studies in Africa is pleased to invite you to a book talk with Haidar Eid, associate professor of Postcolonial and Postmodern Literature at Al-Aqsa University in Gaza.

Eid’s book Decolonizing the Palestinian Mind (Inkani Books, 2024) was published while he was living and working in Gaza until the scale of annihilation prompted his evacuation. In the book, Eid develops a sharp critique of the 1993 Oslo Accords and the apartheid system that was spawned by this settlement. Building on the work of Edward Said, Eid argues for a new consciousness to guide the Palestinian struggle for liberation in the early twenty-first century.

The event will take place at The Lounge, Old College House on UP’s Hatfield campus on 17 April, from 2 pm to 4 pm. Zeenat Patel of the University of Pretoria Palestine Solidarity Committee will be a discussant.

Participants from outside the University of Pretoria are kindly requested to RSVP to Mr. Jason Love at [email protected].

Please note that copies of Decolonizing the Palestinian Mind will be available to purchase at the event for R150 a copy – card payments only.
