Application Process for Postgraduate Studies (excluding MChD)

When a student wishes to be considered for admission to the Postgraduate Diploma in Dentistry (PGDipDent), he/she first completes the APPLICATION FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDY form (which includes the contract with the University) and must also remit the application fee of R200,00.

Applications can be done online, in person (Student Administration Centre, 3rd Level, HW Snyman Building, North Wing) or via mail. In all instances, the following is required before your application can be processed:

• Application fee of R200,00

• Certified copy of your RSA identity document. Foreign candidates must submit a certified copy of their passport. Birth certificates and drivers’ licenses are not acceptable

• Applicants who are not RSA citizens must complete an INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS APPLICATION FORM

• Unless you have completed your studies at the University of Pretoria, original academic transcripts (records) from your previous university must be submitted. Kindly note that these must be complete transcripts covering all the years of study, the subjects offered, the marks obtained for each subject and indicating that the degree (where applicable) has been completed. Please note that degree certificates will not be accepted in lieu of complete academic transcripts.

• Postgraduate students who apply for admission, and who obtained their qualifications at any international institution(s), should first have their qualifications evaluated by SAQA (The South African Qualifications Authority).

The website address for SAQA is www.saqa.org.za, and all the relevant information (cost for evaluation, application form, etc) can be found there.

NB: Only after all of the above documentation is received with your application and fee of R200,00, will it receive further attention and be sent to the relevant academic department for consideration.

Furthermore, your attention is drawn to the fact that this is an application for admission to the PGDipDent, and, if approved, does not constitute or imply that you are a registered student with the University.

Once your application for admission has been considered by the relevant academic department, you will be informed by way of a letter whether your application was successful or not.

If successful, you will be required to complete a registration form and pay the initial registration fee (R2 750,00 for 2009) before your registration can be finalised for the 2009 academic year. You are also kindly requested to quote your student number (will be provided on admission’s letter) in all future correspondence with the University.

Your attention is drawn to the following points:

• Postgraduate student’s who have been admitted to the PGDipDent have until 13 March 2009 to register. Only in exceptional cases will a late registration be accepted after this date with the approval of the Head of Department and the Chairperson of the School. (R150,00 is payable for late registration.)

• If you have applied for admission and have not heard anything in this regard, you can contact Ms A Ngale (Tel: 012 3541064) or Ms A Welman (Tel: 012 354 2244) to enquire about the status of your application.

• If you have already received notification of your admission and have submitted the necessary registration form and registration fee and wish to query your registration, kindly contact Ms E Maboa (012 354 2394).
