Owor Kennedy is a Doctorate of Laws (LLD) Candidate under the NRF SARChI Chair for International Constitutional Law at the University of Pretoria. He is working under the supervision of Professor Babatunde Olaitan Fagbayibo. Owor completed his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Uganda Christian University; Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Bar) at the Law Development Centre and Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Pretoria.
Owor is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda with experience in legal practice across East Africa. He worked as a lecturer of Laws at Uganda Christian University and a Legal Officer for Refugee Law Project of the Makerere University School of Law in Uganda. His previous role as the Innovation Lead at Legal Hub Uganda that navigated how technology can be used to leverage access to justice made him the winner of the Legal Aid Innovation Challenge in 2019, 2020 and 2021. His LLM research, for which he received a distinction, focused on how a shift to a human rights-based approach to technologies by duty bearers can ensure an equitable access to justice for all persons in Uganda. Owor has moderated, presented, participated and been a panelist in several national and international conferences on topics of human rights, climate, peace and security, refugee crisis, land rights and intellectual property.
Owor’s LLD research under the NRF Chair for International Constitutional Law focuses on international law. The research delves into the complex dynamics of the international law-making functions of the African Union and how the African Union exercises its sovereignty in the process. The research uses the aspect of human rights laws in Africa as a case study.
