Cassius Ali Latlhang is an LLD Candidate under the NRF SARChI Chair in International Constitutional Law, working under the supervision of Professor Frans Viljoen.
Cassius completed his LLB from Botswana in 2021, LLM by Research (Cum Laude) in 2022 from the NRF SARChl Chair in Cities, Law and Environmental Sustainability (CLES) North-West University in Potchefstroom. He was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of Botswana on the 7th of February 2022.
Cassius was a KAS Regional Programme on Energy Security and Climate Change in Sub-Saharan Africa Scholar for two years (2022-2023). His LLM research focused on the areas of Property, Urban and Land Law. Whilst at CLES he acted as a Guest Editor of the Chair’s newsletter and undertook other portfolio work. He has presented at various national conferences on topics ranging from tenure security, property law and some aspects of human rights law.
Mr Latlhang’s research interests lie in International Refugee Law, International Environmental Law, Children’s Rights and the Environment as well as Business and Human Rights. He has a keen interest in how International Law can be interpreted to protect children in climate distress.
He is also the recipient of the KAS-PhD Grant for 2024.
