Quillene M Vertue, Doctoral Candidate and Research Assistant

Quillene M Vertue obtained the degrees BA Law, LLB and LLM (Coursework:  International Law) from the University of Pretoria. She is an LLD Candidate under the NRF SARChI Chair for International Constitutional Law and is also the Research Assistant to the SACRhI Chair.

Ms Vertue’s main areas of interest are International Humanitarian Law, International Environmental Law, and International Criminal Law. Her LLM dissertation, for which she received a distinction, sought to establish whether or not the International Criminal Court has contributed towards clarifying the prohibition of sexual and gender-based violence crimes committed during non-international armed conflicts.

She is currently pursuing her LLD under the supervision of Professors Dire Tladi and Martha M Bradley. Her research focuses on the protection of the environment during armed conflicts.
