Postgraduate Training

The department provides post-graduate training for registrars in Radiation Oncology. This is a 4-year full-time degree. The degree comprises a two-part examination as set out by the College of Medicine South Africa. The part 1 exam must be completed no less than 6 months and no more than 18 months from commencement of registrar appointment. An MMED dissertation is a necessary requirement. The MMED dissertation requires submission of a research protocol and completion of the Research project before completion of the degree. All candidates are required to design a research protocol, attend the TNM course and submit the protocol for ethics review before the commencement of the project. In addition, candidates are required to complete a portfolio comprising case reports, logbooks and a critical review of a research article. The protocol should be completed by the second year of study if not sooner.
